Abstract
1319475 Aligning random feed of articles B SCHMIDT A S SCHMIDT H A MAURER N SCHMIDT-MURPHY B L HERRICK and F M IRVING Jnr [trading as ALTO CO] 3 Sept 1970 [12 Sept 1969] 42252/70 Heading B8C Apparatus for aligning buns 27, or other baked goods, comprises an inclined shoot 2 pivoted at 6 at its lower end and adjustably supported by posts 8 at its upper end, four endless sprocket chains 14 aligned below slots 13 in the bottom 3 of the shoot each chain having a number of deflector pins 17 which, when travelling on the upper run of the chain in a direction 20 opposite the down flow of buns, project through corresponding slots 13, a number of slotted partitions 18 in alignment with the slots 13, and a tiltable platform 21 and gate 22 at the outlet of the shoot. The chains 14 are located on sprockets 15, 16 fixed to shafts 11, 12 carried by side frames 9, the shaft 11, driven by a motor 25 through chains and a gear box 26 to carry the pins up the shoot in the direction 20, being located at a greater distance from the shoot bottom 3 than the shaft 12 so that the pins extend the greatest distance above the bottom of the shoot where they enter the slots 19 in the partitions 18 and gradually decrease in distance until they disappear through the slots 13 before they pass around the sprockets 15. As buns 27 slide down the shoot the deflector pins 17, longitudinally offset with respect to each other and moving upstream align the buns into five rows which slide between the partitions 18 and come to rest against the gate 22. When two lateral rows of buns arrive on the platform 21 an actuator 35 Fig. 6, tilts the platform about a pivot 32 so that a flange 41 arrests further movement of buns on to the platform 21 and a follower 34 on the gate 22, pivoted at 33, allows a flange 22 to drop so that the buns can slide off the platform. In a modification V-belts carry the pins. Other types of conveyers may be used and they may be located above the shoot with the fingers directed downwardly.
