Abstract

1319208 Glove boxes GESELLSCHAFT FUER KERNFORSCHUNG mbH and H R SCHRADER 8 Sept 1971 [26 Sept 1970] 41848/71 Heading B4Q An arrangement for transferring substances between a vessel 1 closed by a cover 11 and a glove box 3 having a flange 2 closed by a cover 8 similar to that described in Specification 1,270,069 differs in that the pin 19 in this case co-operates with a nut 35 fixed to a locking cross 14 comprising two or more cross arms having T or double T cross-sections. In order to close the vessel 1 and render it gas-tight, or to open the vessel, the cover 11 and the locking cross 14 are arranged either with a small clearance (shown on right-hand side) or with a larger clearance (shown on left-hand side) between them. The free ends of the locking cross 14 are provided with locking pins 15 which pivot about axes 13 on displacement of the locking cross 14. In one end position of the latter (closing position), the tips of the locking pins 15 engage firmly and undisplaceably in the groove 20 countersunk in the inner wall of the vessel 1, whereupon the cover 11 is firmly pressed against the seal 10 and the vessel 1 is tightly closed. In the second end position of the locking cross 14, the locking pins 15 are in a position enabling the cover 11 and cross 14 to rise from the front of the vessel 1. This is achieved by the lower side of the cover 11 being provided with eyelets 17, the bottom portions 37 of which form stops for the locking pins 15. Other abutment eyelets 38 are secured to the underside of the cover 11, the bottom portions 39 of these retarding the arms of the locking cross 14 in their movement away from the cover 11. The bottom portions 37 of the eyelets 17 extend through slots 40 in the locking pins 15 and guide the pivotal movements of th pins during the reciprocating motion of the locking cross 14. The reciprocating motion is effected by means of the spindle 22, spring-loaded coupling 33 and coupling part 18 as in the abovementioned Specification. This locking method makes it possible to lock vessels of larger diameter, since the arms of the cross 14 and the locking pins 15 can be of considerable rigidity.
