Abstract

1318593 Photographic silver halide materials containing additives EASTMAN KODAK CO 17 Sept 1970 [17 Sept 1969] 44451/70 Heading G2C A sensitive photographic material comprises a support bearing a photographic silver halide layer and contains in that layer or in a layer adjacent thereto a compound of the formula:- wherein R is H, alkyl or aryl; R 1 is H, halogen, alkyl, aryl, OH or carboxyl or a group of the formula -O-CO-R<SP>1</SP> or wherein R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl, each of R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 is H, halogen, alkyl, aryl, OH or carboxyl or a group of the formula -O-CO-R<SP>1</SP>, each of x, y and z is 0 or 1, at least one of x and y being 1, each of a and b is 0, 1 or 2, and each of n 1 , n 2 and n 3 , or 1, 2-di(acetylmalate of glycerol-3-monostearate, 1-monosuccinate of diglycerol -7-monostearate, 2-monosuccinate of di(1, 2-propylene glycol)-2- monostearate or diethyleneglycol monostearate. The compound of the general formula above may be stearyl malate, stearyl acetyl malate, monosuccinate of 1, 3-butanediol monostearate, stearyl succinate, monosuccinate of propylene glycol monostearate, monosuccinate of glycerol monostearate, monomalate of glycerol monostearate, monoacetylmalate of glycerol monostearate or monosuccinate of ethylene glycol monostearate. These compounds are anti-foggants and may additionally be used as solvents for colour couplers in photographic silver halide emulsions.
