Abstract

1318115 Manufacture of sealed magnetic reed contact units HASLER AG 4 June 1970 [6 June 1969] 27047/70 Heading H1N The air gap between the contact ends of the reeds in a sealed magnetic reed contact unit is set by locally heating one of the two reeds by means of a high-frequency heating device and applying magnetic force to deflect both reeds simultaneously so that the reed exposed to highfrequency heating undergoes a permanent material deformation. To enlarge the contact gap the contact unit, which may have reeds on spring hinges 24a, 24b, is inserted within the heating coil 30 so that its reed 23b whose hinge is to be heated has its contact end nearer the electromagnet 40 than the contact end of the other reed 23a as in Fig. 2. The heater and electromagnet are then energized and both reeds move but do not engage each other due to the common polepiece 44 of the electromagnet. On de-energization of the heater and electromagnet the reed 23a restores to its original position but due to material deformation the heated reed does not spring back so far and the contact gap is increased. Fig. 3 shows the upper reed nearer the electromagnet so that with this arrangement the contact gap can be decreased. The electromagnet can be energized to produce opposite poles at its outer pieces 43, 45 when the heater is not energized so as to test the contact operation. During the abovementioned operations a light projector with magnifier may be used (Fig. 1, not shown) to provide an image of the contacts on a screen.
