1318107 Two-part couplings C K WHITE 19 June 1970 [20 June 1969] 29880/70 Heading H2E An electrical distribution track, Fig. 1, comprises a metal U-cross-sectioned channel 1 containing flanges 2 which support two blocks of insulation 4 containing flat conductors 5. Extra flanges 3 on the side walls of the channel support cover-plates 12 and provide triangular crosssectioned recesses 7 between the flanges 2 and flanges 3 and the other flanges 2 and the base of the channel 1. A T-shaped element 9 is provided for fixing the track on a surface of a building e.g. by clips. A connection adapter, Fig. 2, to which may be attached a spotlight or a conventional socket comprises a casing 31 in which are mounted a fuse 47 connected to the line terminal 49, and neutral and earth terminals 48, 50. The earth terminal 50 is connected to a contact 35 which makes connection to the base of the channel 1 of the track when the adaptor is inserted. The line and neutral terminals are connected to conductors 46 which are mounted on one of a pair of insulating plates (41, 42, Fig. 3, not shown) which are held against rotation and are mounted on opposite ends of a spindle 38 whose ends have different handed screw threads. Attached to the spindle 38 is an actuation plate 37 having notches 45 in its outer surface in which fits a spring catch 44. On rotation of the plate 37 the insulating plates (41, 42) move apart pushing projections on their edges into the triangular recesses 7 in the track and move the conductors 46 into connection with the track conductors 5. The casing 31 has a removable cover over the terminals 48, 49, 50. In another embodiment the track (Fig. 4, not shown) has conductors formed on one side of the U-shaped channel and a connection adapter for this (Fig. 5, not shown) has a U-shaped body one arm of which fits in the U-shaped track channel and a screw on the other arm holds the adapter on the track. A skirting board may be formed with two compartments, the lower one carrying cables and the upper one conductors in insulating strips as described.
