Abstract

1317788 Magnetic control devices H HALLMANN 22 July 1970 [22 July 1969] 35519/70 Heading E2A A magnetic control device comprises a control member 2 movable between an inoperative and an operative position and a locking member 4, 6 movable relative to a housing 1 of the device, into a release setting in which the locking member 4, 6 is spaced from the ends of its operative path of movement relative to the housing 1, the locking member 4, 6 being adjusted to prevent movement of the control member 2 out of its inoperative position and into its operative position except when the locking member 4, 6 is in its release setting. A plurality of magnets 7, 8, 9, 10 are mounted in the device, at least one of the magnets being carried by the locking member 4, 6 and the magnets co-operating to exert on the locking member magnet or magnets opposing repelling forces which urge the locking members 4, 6 towards its release setting. At least one of the magnets other than the locking member magnet or magnets is removable so as to disrupt the magnetic force urging the locking member towards its release setting, the locking member thereafter being urged towards one end of its operative path of movement. In the construction shown the locking member 4, 6 is pivotally mounted on the control member 2 and the removable magnet 9 is in the form of a key. In its locked condition an anchor 4 of the locking member 4, 6 hooks onto a flange 13 of the housing 1. In a further embodiment (Figs. 4, 5 not shown) a housing is provided with a pair of apertures through which two projections respectively of a control member are to be urged. One of the apertures is blocked by one of a pair of opposed magnets and a further magnet has to be introduced into the housing to urge the one magnet away from the aperture.
