Abstract

1317530 Stereo circuit volume control MOTOROLA Inc 18 Nov 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 53572/71 Heading H4R In a four channel system, e.g. for an automobile multi track tape player system, D.C. control signal for controlling the respective volume levels in each of the channels are derived from potentiometers 52, 62, and 64. Potentiometer 52 controls the level of one pair of channels, e.g. the left front and left rear, relative the other pair of channels, e.g. the right front and right rear. Potentiometer 62 controls the volume level of one channel in each pair, e.g. the left front and right front, relative the other channel in each pair, e.g. the left rear and right rear. Potentiometer 64 controls the overall level of the sound from all channels, with the arrangement such that operation of the balance controls 52 and 62 has no effect on the total volume while operation of volume control 64 does not effect balance. The control signals are applied to the bases of respective transistors 44-50 connected as shunt elements of potentiometers in the signal path. The balance potentiometers are preferably lever operated controls with the levers moving in respective planes at right angles.
