Abstract

1317215 Selective printing NORTEC COMPUTER DEVICES Inc 1 Sept 1970 [12 Sept 1969] 41738/70 Heading B6F A selective printer employs an endless steel band 14 having type 38 and control indicia 42, 44, etched along one surface. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4), the steel band has a combshaped edge with the type formed on the teeth of the comb. The band 14 is supported by two pulleys (16 and 18, Fig. 1), so that the band has two straight portions between the pulleys, one of the straight portions being adjacent the paper web along the line to be printed. One pulley (16), is driven continuously by an electric motor, and the other pulley is an idler supported by an adjustable mounting which permits the band to be replaced and tensioned. The control indicia 42 and 44 are sensed by two transducers, one indicating a particular part, the other indicating a particular character in that part. Both transducers contain an axial pole 48 and a concentric cylindrical pole 50, in which are located a coil (58, Fig. 3), and a cylindrical magnet 62. An array of print hammers is arranged behind the paper web in (Fig. 1), and in front of the paper web with the steel band in the alternative embodiment of (Fig. 4). A suitable hammer mechanism is of the kind described in Specification 1,306,559.
