Abstract

1316661 Cementitious compositions T MURATA 8 April 1970 16564/70 Heading ClH [Also in Division C3] Hydraulic cements are reinforced with fibres having a continuous phase of thermoplastic synthetic resin, a dispersed phase of 20 to 80 weight per cent of a "cementitious material" of particle size greater than 15 microns and 0À1 to 5 weight per cent of a hydrophilic surfactant, the fibres having surface discontinuities to allow the cementitious material to protrude. The resin may be a polymer of an alkene or substituted alkene, e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene or polyvinyl chloride or a styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer, or a polyamide, e.g. polyhexamethylene adipamide. The "cementitious material" may be Portland cement, white Portland cement or powdered silica. The surfactant may be a tertiary amine sulphonate or sorbitan monostearate. The fibres may be solid or hollow, of circular or non-circular cross-section, and the surface discontinuities may be introduced by drawing or melt spun fibres, or by drawing and splitting extruded film. The fibres may also contain stabilizers, e.g. zinc stearate, and lubricants, e.g. paraffins. In examples, cement mortars comprising Portland cement and sand (1:3) are reinforced with fibres made from compositions of Portland cements, tertiary amine sulphonate surfactants, and (1) nylon or polypropylene, (2 and 3) polypropylene, (4) nylon, (5) polyethylene and polypropylene and (7) acrylonitrile/styrene resin; and compositions of silica, sorbitan mono-stearate, zinc stearate and (b) polyvinyl chloride.
