Abstract

1337446 Open-cell foams HIROSHIMA KASEI Ltd 19 April 1971 [13 Jan 1971] 24821/71 Heading C3C An open-cell foam is produced by melting a thermoplastic synthetic resin composition with a foaming composition which contains short (as herein defined) fibre lengths with one or more blowing agents attached, machine casting the melt into a mould and cooling the cast melt to solidify it. The fibres may be natural or synthetic, examples disclosing the use of fibres of cotton. A number of chemical blowing agents, all conventional, may be used. They may be attached to the fibre by binding agents such as polyisocyanates or compositions containing them together with one or more of natural rubber, synthetic rubbers, polyurethane, chloroprene, nitrile-butadiene rubber, methyl methacrylate, and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. Many thermoplastic resins may be used, the examples illustrate the use of polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride. Plasticizers such as DOP or epoxy resins may also be present.
