1316389 Sec-alkylbenzene carboxylic acids SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 30 July 1971 36001/71 Heading C2C Secondary-alkylbenzene carboxylic acids are prepared by contacting a benzene derivative having at least one secondary alkyl group and at least one methyl group as ring substituents with oxygen or a gas containing free molecular oxygen in an aliphatic acid medium in the presence of as catalyst cobalt or a cobalt compound and in the presence of as oxidation promoter an aliphatic aldehyde, an aliphatic polyaldehyde, a ketone having one or more methylene groups, an alcohol having one or more methylene groups, an ether, a peracid, hydrogen peroxide or a compatible mixture of two or more thereof.
