Abstract

1316247 Tilting furnaces LECTROMELT CORP 11 Oct 1971 [26 Oct 1970] 47233/71 Heading F4B A furnace has a removable roof 35 and is supported on a tiltable platform 10 normally in a horizontal position, a swingable structure mounted on the platform and rotating about a normally vertical axis carrying means to lift the roof and enable it to be swung away from the furnace, a platform lock releasable to allow the platform to be tilted only when the swingable structure is in the home position with the furnace roof aligned with the furnace. The lock means consists of a leg 60 pivoted at 61 to the platform 10. In the vertical position the leg co-acts with a fixed abutment 67 preventing tilting of the platform. An arm 63 fixed to the leg 60 is covered by a part of the swingable structure except when this structure is in the home position so that no rotation of the arm is possible. When the structure is in the home position the leg and arm assembly can be rotated by a ram 64 to allow tilting of the platform and pouring of metal from the furnace.
