Abstract

1316042 Rendering fats COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION 19 April 1971 [23 Feb 1970] 22029/71 Heading C5C Animal materials are dry rendered by contacting them with a continuous stream of hot fat at 250-400‹ F. in a vessel with two trough like compartments 2, 3. Light cooked particles are carried out of compartment 2 by the flow of fat through aperture 6 into launder 7, and are separated at 9 to produce a high protein meal product. The heavy material remains on the floor of compartment 2 and is slowly carried up by conveyors to outlet 7 via compartment 3 cooking as it does so. The fat stream is continually recycled via heat exchanger 13.
