1315686 Carrying conductors through partitions; lead-in insulators HEYES & CO Ltd 16 Nov 1971 [17 Nov 1970] 54529/70 Headings H2C and H2E A flameproof feedthrough bushing for passing a plurality of insulated conductors 10 through a bulkhead 18 comprises a hollow cylindrical body 12 of metal or plastics with a flange at one end and a thread at the other to receive a nut 14 which retains the bushing in the bulkhead. In assembly, a glass fibre or plastics insert 16 is first placed in one end of the body 12. The insert has holes through which the conductors are then passed. The conductors are next twisted, in the region within the body, preferably through 180 degrees. An epoxy resin, polyester resin, or hot melt adhesive such as a polyamide is then introduced into the body, to hold the conductors in their twisted position. Finally a second insert 16 is fitted to the other end of the body, being retained by the resin. The filling must be free of coils, &c., to make the bushing flameproof.
