Abstract

1315560 Forging machines EUMUCO AG FUR MASCHINENBAU 11 Aug 1970 [16 Aug 1969] 38729/70 Heading B3H A forging machine which can operate as a hammer or a press comprises an anvil 7 and a ram 2 driven by a pair of pistons 8, 12 operated by the same hydraulic fluid and controlled independently. The smaller piston 8 has its piston rod 9 connected to the ram and is used to perform the hammering. The larger piston 12 presses against the upper surface 25 of the ram to move the ram for a pressing stroke. The fluid supply is controlled by a device 18. The lower chambers 22, 23 are connected to a pressure accumulator (not shown), for the return strokes. The larger piston 12 is held mechanically or hydraulically in its upper position during hammering. For pressing the pistons move downwards together. In a similar embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the anvil 7 is mounted on a vertically slidable block (26) which is connected by vertical rods (28) to pistons (29). The cylinders of these pistons are connected to the device 18 by a conduit 31 to provide an initial upstroke of the anvil and a braking force for the ram. The piston cylinder devices to move the anvil may be provided in the frame of the machine adjacent the anvil, Fig. 3. In a further example, Fig. 4, the ram is used for hammering and the anvil is raised for pressing. The anvil is moved by a pair of pistons 36 connected to the anvil by rods 28 in place of the larger piston 12 of the first embodiment. A buffer 37 is provided for the ram. In a modification of this embodiment. Fig. 5 (not shown), a piston (43) in the cylinder of each of the pistons 36 is operated to be moved by the impact of a hammer stroke to raise the piston 36 from its initial position so that it can be actuated for a pressing operation. During this pressing operation the ram is held raised by the pressure in an accumulator 23. The latter embodiment may be further modified by having the anvil driving pistons (36b), Fig. 6 (not shown), in the frame adjacent the anvil.
