Abstract
1315457 Gas operated heating apparatus; burner control systems LEBLANC SA 28 May 1971 [18 Dec 1970] 17839/71 Headings F4A and F4T A gas operated heating apparatus having a safety device for preventing combustion gases from venting into an adjacent room comprises a smoke duct 5 adapted to be fitted with a mechanical means, e.g. a fan or turbine for forcing combustion gases therethrough from a burner 1, a conduit 10 arranged to vent further combustion gases from a pilot burner 14 to the duct, for entrainment in the combustion gases from the burner, a heat sensitive element 9, in or adjacent the conduit, and adapted to close off a gas valve 7 to the burner when the mechanical means fails to vent gases from the conduct. As shown gases from pilot burner 14 build up in the conduit and the element 9, e.g. a bimetallic strip closes valve 7. Inlet end 11 of the conduit may comprise a chamber (16), Fig. 2 (not shown), and a refractory disc (17) having peripheral apertures. In Fig. 3 (not shown) conduit 10, is within combustion chamber 2 and consists of two sections (10a, 10b) separated by a gap for inducing air to cool the adjacent heat sensitive element (21), e.g. a thermostat or static resistor element of positive temperature co-efficient connected to an electromagnet gas supply valve (23). In Fig. 4 (not shown), element (21) is in series with a further heat sensitive element (25) and a magnetic head (24) controlling the valve. The heating apparatus may be a gas fired water heater a central heating boiler or a gas radiator.
