Abstract
1315384 Cables ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 29 May 1970 [23 June 1969] 48144/72 Divided out of 1315382 Heading H1A A power cable comprises a bundle of conducting wires surrounded by a semi-conductor layer, the whole being helically wrapped with one or two lengths of autogenously bonded non- woven polypropylene fabric of thickness 1-30 mil. and a porosity (i.e. void space) of less than 35%, preferably 15-25%. The second length may be thicker than the first. The fibres are preferably of 2-5 micron diameter. The cable is placed in a vacuum to remove entrapped air, impregnated with an electrical insulation oil such as a polybutene or alkylbenzene, or a dielectric fluid such as silicone oil, nitrogen or sulphur hexafluoride, then placed in a sheath.
