Abstract

1315383 Capacitors ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 29 May 1970 [23 June 1969] 48143/72 Divided out of 1315382 Heading H1M An electric capacitor comprises at least two metal plates separated by autogenously bonded non-woven polypropylene fabric having a porosity (i.e. void space) of less than 35% and a thickness between 0À4 and 2 mil. The fabric is impregnated with dielectric fluids such as 1, 2 dichlorobenzene or polychlorinated biphenyls. Alternatively the dielectric material may comprise a layer of the polypropylene fabric plus a layer of cellulosic electrical paper. In the preferred embodiment the polypropylene fabric comprises 2-5 micron diameter fibres and has one surface more permeable than the other. Production of the fabric is described in Specification 1,315,382.
