Abstract
1315075 Concrete piles, subterranean barrier walls RHONE-POULENC-TEXTILE 19 April 1971 [16 Feb 1970] 21852/71 Heading E1H In a process for forming in situ in soft or sunken ground a concrete or like castable material pile or a retaining or subterranean barrier wall, means are provided for limiting the quantity of concrete or like material used. When forming a cylindrical pile a metal tube 2 is driven into the ground 1, the space within it excavated and a permeable flexible and deformable fibrous bag 3 inserted within the tube. Reinforcement 5 is then added and a concrete or like mix 4 cast into the bag as the tube 1 is withdrawn, the fibres of the bag being partially set in the mix. Non-cylindrical piles and walls may likewise be made using metal sheets and deformable bags of appropriate shape. Preferably the elongation characteristics of the fibres are such that the volume of concrete or like material used is not more than three times the volume of the excavated space. Details of preferred fibrous materials are given. The pile or wall forming material may comprise concrete, gas concrete, concrete filled with polyvinyl acetate emulsions mortars, aggregates bonded by polyester or other synthetic resins, and rigid polystyrene or polyurethane foams.
