Abstract

1315055 Heat exchangers K R A OSTBO 19 April 1971 [21 Aug 1970] 22169/71 Heading F4S In a plate heat exchanger comprising a plurality of circular metal plates 14 mounted on an axial tube 6 within a cylindrical shell 1, ring- shaped sealing gaskets 17 serve both to space apart adjacent plates and to separate the two heat exchange media flowing through the plate stack. One heat exchange medium, on entering the shell through inlet 2, passes through radially extending openings 15 in the stack plates before leaving through outlet 3. The other heat exchange medium, on entering through inlet 4 and tube 6, is constrained to flow through the stack by way of notches 16 formed in the plates around the tube 6. The plates 14 are so arranged that the openings 15 and the notches 16 in adjacent plates are angularly displaced relative to each other. A compressive force is applied to the plate stack via a sleeve 24 urged by a spring 28. The gaskets may be metal and welded to the plates (see Figs. 9 and 10).
