Abstract

1314825 Cigarette making-machine trimmer MOLINS MACHINE CO Ltd 30 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 38738/69 Heading A2C A trimmer for a tobacco filler stream, comprises one or more rotary trimming discs 44, 46 mounted on a carrier 54-60 which is pivotally mounted by ball or roller bearings 62, 64 on a stationary member 160 including a drive shaft 36 for driving the trimming discs 44, 46, the shaft 36 being coaxial with the pivot axis about which the carrier 54-60 pivots relative to the stationary member 160. The carrier 54-60 comprises the three sections 54, 56, 58 of a tubular housing, the section 58 (Fig. 3) forming part of a composite integral section with a part 60 (Fig. 5). The drive from the shaft 36 is transmitted via bevel gears 66, 68, (Fig. 3) and shaft sections 70, 72 to a gear 84 on a coupling member 82, the gear 84 driving the trimming discs 44, 46 through a gear 86 (Fig. 5), a shaft 88 carrying helical gears 90, 92, and gears 94, 96. The coupling member 82 also transmits drive, via a shaft 76 and bevel gears 78, 80, to a rotary brush 52 that aids removal of trimmed off tobacco. The drive shaft 36 is driven from a gear box 10 which includes a train of gears (24), 26, (28) which are interchangeable to allow speed adjustment. The gear box 10 also includes a pumped lubricating system.
