Abstract

1314357 Device for securing hot top tiles to chill moulds HILTI AG 18 Nov 1970 [15 Dec 1969] 54733/70 Heading B4C A device for securing hot top tiles to a wall of a chill mould comprises an explosively-actuated fastener-driving tool 1 having a support arm 10, an arm 16 pivotally connected to a clamp 15 and including a stop tongue 17, and means fo r supporting a tile 21 prior to securing the tile to the chill mould wall 4b. The support means comprises a U-shaped member 3 having telescopic legs 3a, 7 and 3b, 8, the portions 7, 8 of the legs being biased by a spring 9, and an arm 20 pivotally mounted on a clamp 19 and biased by a torsion spring 22. In use a tile is supported on the legs of the U-shaped member and is retained by the arm 20. The arm 16 is then rested on the upper edge of the chill mould wall (4b) (Fig. 3, not shown). An operator stands on the arm 16 and pivots the support arm 10 about pivot 25 to bring the support means into engagement with the mould wall. Continued movement causes the legs and the arm 20 to release the tile which is held in place by the point of a nail 24 extending into the tile and by pressure of the tool 1 thereagainst. Depression of button 12 effects driving of the nail into the mould wall. The tool 1 cannot be fired unless pressed against the tile. The clamps 15, 19 are adjustable along the support arm 10.
