Abstract

1,263,411. Cartridge-actuated fastener driving tools. HILTI A.G. 25 June, 1970 [18 July, 1969], No. 30781/70. Heading B4C. [Also in Division B3] Apparatus for driving a fastener into the side wall of a chill or ingot mould to fix hot top tiles in place comprises a cartridge-actuated fastener driving tool 1 mounted on a support or extension 2 provided with a rest arm 9 for supporting the tool from the top surface of the mould, the rest arm being pivoted at one end to the support or extension and provided with an angled locator 13 for anchoring the rest arm while the tool is operated by means of a handle 3. The rest arm 9 is securable at various positions along the extension 2 by means of a clamp 7, screw 5 and grip 6 and the locator 13 is securable at various positions along the rest arm by means of a pin 15 and notches 14. When in position on the mould the rest arm 9 lies flat on the top surface of the mould with the locator 13 engaging the outer wall of the mould.; in this rest position the extension 2 is tilted about a pivot 8 by a spring 11 to maintain the tool 1 clear of the inner wall of the mould to which hot top tiles are to be fixed. To operate the tool, the extension is first swung about the pivot 8 to press the tool against the tile and neutralize a safety device in the tool; by depressing a release button 4, a cartridge in the tool is detonated to drive in a fastener.
