Abstract

1314190 Making tobacco-smoke filters R J REYNOLDS TOBACCO CO 30 June 1970 [30 June 1969 (2) 13 Nov 1969 9 Feb 1970] 31743/70 Heading A2G A jet-impingement type of tobacco-smoke filter, adapted to be fixed to the downstream end of a tobacco rod, is formed by a method comprising the steps of continuously extruding a hardenable plastic material in the form of a rod, forming a plurality of smoke channels in successive longitudinally spaced sections of said rod, overwrapping said rod and channels with a web having perforations positioned in registry with said channels, and thereafter severing said rod into desired lengths. The method is applicable to the manufacture of some of the filters disclosed in Specifications 1314188 1314189. Two forms of apparatus are diagrammatically illustrated, one for each of two types of the above referred to filters, and differences in the detail of the application of the method to other types of the said filters are described.
