Abstract

1397351 Cigarette mouthpiece PFIZER INC 10 Sept 1973 [20 June 1973] 42527/73 Heading A2C A cigarette mouthpiece comprises a hollow tubular element 4 having a pair of open ends and a transverse smoke impervious barrier wall 10 dividing the element into upstream and downstream regions 12, 14, a pair of cylindrical plugs of porous filter material 20 axially joined in abutting relationship with the open ends of the element 4, and a perforated sleeve 24 surrounding the element. In use the user draws on the filter but merely draws in air through an outer air pervious wrapping 30 the sleeve 24 and the downstream region 14 but not through the free-burning tobacco or tobacco substitute 26 located on the other side of the barrier 10. The symmetry of the element 4 assists manufacture, a plurality of such elements being separated by plugs which are twice the desired lengths of the final plugs 20 so that they may be transversely cut to produce individual mouthpieces.
