Abstract

1314106 Honing MICROMATIC HONE CORP 19 June 1970 [6 Oct 1969] 29860/70 Heading B3D [Also in Division C7] In a method for electroplating and honing a workpiece using an electrode tool having an abrasive member supported by the tool and adjustable outwardly from the tool, the workpiece is first honed without passage of electric current and with or without passage of electrolyte to clean the surface thereof; electric current is passed to effect electroplating of the workpiece surface whilst keeping the abrasive member in rubbing contact with the workpiece to keep the surface clean; the electric current flow is terminated and the abrasive member is advanced into increasing pressure with the workpiece to remove metal mechanically therefrom. As shown the inner surface 23 of an annular workpiece 16 is treated using a tool 14 having honing stones 22 movable transversely of the tool by movement of cone 30, the direction of movement being controlled by providing fluid pressure to chamber 35 via pressure line 37 or 39 respectively. The tool may be both reciprocated and rotated as indicated.
