Abstract

1364182 Electro-plating and honing apparatus MICROMATIC INDUSTRIES Inc 3 July 1972 [16 Aug 1971] 31086/72 Heading C7B [Also in Division B3] Electro-plating and honing apparatus for treatment of a bore comprises means for supporting the workpiece, a combined plating and honing tool supported for selective reciprocation and rotation relative to the bore, and means for passing electrolyte through the bore under pressure via a closed circuit. As shown a workpiece 18 having bore 20 is supported by fixture 16, 16A, and the electrode tool is formed by a sleeve 30 about tool support 24 to which honing stones 26 are attached, to extend through slots 32 in the electrode sleeve 30 and contact the bore surface. In operation the workpiece support 24 - sleeve tool 30 combination are rotated whilst the tool support 24 is reciprocated relative to the sleeve 30 to provide reciprocation of the honing stones. Electrolyte is supplied under pressure by pump 68 via passage 74 to the bore 20 of the workpiece 18 and thence via passage 78 and conduit 80 back to reservoir 66; a small portion of the electrolyte flowing past the seals 86 and 88 to provide a liquid bearing between the seal 86 and the tool sleeve 30, and between the seal 88 and the tool support 24, thereafter returning to reservoir 66 via passages 87 and 99 and conduit 89.
