Abstract

1313994 Lampshade P F CHAPMAN and K G CHAPMAN 21 Jan 1972 [27 Jan 1971] 3289/71 Heading F4R A lampshade, which may be flattened for packaging, comprises two halves 11, formed with inturned flanges 12 glued together to form a tubular shade, each half 11 having springs of wire 13, 14 at the top and bottom thereof and abutting the flanges 12, the springs being able to yield to permit flattening, supporting means 17 for holding the shade in an expanded condition and a fitting 23 for attaching the shade to a bulb. The means 17 may be a simple strut with downturned ends for engaging pockets 21 on the flanges 12 the strut being removed for flattening. Alternatively the means 17 may comprise a telescopic strut (as shown) including a tube 18 in which a wire 19 is slidable to permit flattening. The halves may be of paper or fabric. In an alternative embodiment the supporting means may comprise rings adapted to embrace the top and bottom of the shade to hold it in an expanded condition, the rings being removed for flattening.
