14 Claims. (Cl. 240-108) This invention relates to lampshades and, more specifically, to collapsible lampshades.

It is a primary object of my invention to afiord a col- ,lapsible lampshade having the component parts thereof constituted and arranged in a novel and expeditious man- ;ner.

Another object of my invention is to afford a novel collapsible lampshade which may be sold and shipped in .relatively flat form and may be quickly and easily as- .sembled into an attractive and eifective lampshade.

An ancillary object is to afford a lampshade of the aforementioned type which may be readily assembled by ;the average housewife, or like person, having little or no ;;previous experience in the construction or assembly of vlampshades.

A further object of my invention is to afiord a novel collapsible lampshade having a body portion which is constituted and arranged in a novel and expeditious manner.

Another object of my invention is to afiord a lampshade embodying cover material constituted and arranged in a novel and expeditious manner.

An ancillary object is to permit covering material to be readily removed and replaced for the purpose of washing, cleaning, or changing the material.

Yet another object of my invention is to afford a collapsible lampshade wherein the appearance thereof may be quickly and easily varied in a novel and expeditious manner.

A further object of my invention is to provide a lampshade embodying covering material wherein the shade is so constructed as to enable the average housewife or the like, to provide the shade with any suitable covering material of her choice.

Another object of my invention is to afiord .a novel collapsible lampshade wherein the component parts thereof may be quickly and easily assembled-and disassembled in a novel and expeditious manner.

Other and further objects of the present invention will be apparent from the following description and claims and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, by way of illustration, show preferred embodiments of the present invention and the principles thereof and what I now consider to be the best mode in which I have contemplated applying these principles. Other embodiments of the invention embodying the same or equivalent principles may be used and structural changes may be made as desired by those skilled in the art without departing from the present invention and the purview of the appended claims.

In Figs. 1 to 8 of the drawings, a lampshade 20 is shown to illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention.

The assembled lampshade 20, shown in Fig. 1, embodies, in general, a substantially cylindrical shaped body member 22, on the upper and lower edge portions of which are mounted two annular-shaped molding members or

24 and 26. A hanger 28, embodying a center ring or hub 30 from which three

legs

32, 33, and 34 project radially outwardly in substantially equally spaced angular relation to each other, is mounted in the ring 24.

The

24 and 26 and the hanger 28 may be made of any suitable material, such as, for example, steel, and the hanger 28 is preferably permanently attached to the ring 24 by any suitable means such as, for example, welding the outer ends of the legs 3234 to the inner face of the ring 24. The hanger 28 affords a mounting member by which'the shade 20 may be supported on the lamp on which the shade is to be used.

24 and 26 are identical in construction. Each

ring

24 and 26 is substantially channel-shaped in cross section and embodies a relatively short outer flange 36, a longer inner flange 38 disposed in substantially parallel relation to the outer flange 36, and an intermediate flange 4-0 interconnecting the outer edge portions of the

flanges

36 and 38. Each of the

rings

24 and 26 has a plurality of fastening loops 42, Figs. 1, 2 and 3, formed in, and project.- ing inwardly from, the inner flange 38 in spaced relation to each other around the flange 38. The loops 42 are preferably formed integrally of the flange 38 by a suitable striking operation, or the like.

'The body member 22 of my novel lampshade 20 em bodies a base member 44 on which is mounted a suitable cover member 46. The cover member 46 may be readily mounted on, and removed from, the base 44, as will be discussed in greater detail presently.

The base 44 is formed from a substantially rectangularshaped sheet of material and, prior to assembly in the lampshade 24 is preferably flat, as shown in Fig. 7. It

3 22 and is semi-rigid in that it is preferably self-supporting when disposed in the position shown in Fig. 1 but is sufliciently flexible that it may be readily moved between the curved shape shown in Fig. 1 and the fiat shape shown in Fig. 7.

I prefer to construct the base 44 out of paper board. However, other suitable flexible semi-rigid materials such as, for example, paper, parchment, Bristol board, metal, plastic, stiffened fabrics, or the lilre, may be used without departing from the purview of my invention.

The rectangular-shaped base 44 has two

end edges

61 and 62, and two side edges 63 and 64, Fig. 7. A plurality of clips 48, made of any suitable material such as, for example, tin, are mounted on the inner face 49 0. the body member 44. The clips 48 are disposed in spaced relation to each other along, and in inwardly spaced relation to, each of the side edges 63 and 64 of the base 44.

Each clip 48 is preferably so constructed that it may be firmly anchored in position on the inner face 49 of the base 44 with a minimum of disfigurement of the outer face 50 thereof. I prefer to form each of my clips 48 from a single sheet of suitable sheet metal, with each clip having a substantially square base portion 52 having an outer edge 53 and an inner edge 56, and an elongated prong 55 projecting away from the. edge 56 The 'clips 48 are disposed on the base 44 with the outer edges 53 thereof disposed closely adjacent the respective longitudinal edges 63 and 64 of the base 44, Fig. 7. Two fastening prongs 58 and 59 are preferably struck from the central portion of the body member 52, between the

53 and 56 and when the clip 48 is being mounted on the base 44, the prongs 58 and 59 may be turned perpendicular to the body member 52, inserted through the base 44, and then bent down into the position shown in Fig. 5, wherein they are disposed in fiat engagement with the outer face 50 of the base 44 to thereby securely fasten the clip 48 to the base 44.

67, 68 and 69 are afforded on the inner face 49 of the base 44 adjacent to the longitudinal edges 63, 64, and the end edge 62, respectively, the strips of

adhesive material

67 and 68 extending across the bases 52 of the clips 48 disposed adjacent to the side edges 63 and 64, respectively, of the base 44, Figs. and 7. The strips of

adhesive material

67, 68 and 69 on the face 49 of the base 44 preferably extend inwardly from the

respective edges

63, 64 and 62, a distance of approximately one-quarter of an inch.

A strip of adhesive material 66 is similarly disposed on the outer face 50 of the base 44 adjacent to the end edge 61, Fig. 7.

I prefer that the adhesive material 6669 be a suitable pressure sensitive adhesive applied directly to the respective edge portions 6164 of the base 44. In the manufacture of the base 44, suitable strips of protective paper, not shown, may be placed over the strips of adhesive material -69 to protect the latter until the base 44 is to be used. At that time, the protective paper may be stripped from the adhesive to expose the latter.

Two additional clips 70 are mounted on the inner face 49 of the base 44 adjacent to the end edge 62 thereof. These clips 70 may be identical in construction to the clips 48 but, in this instance, are preferably mounted on the base 44 in such position that the outer edges 53 thereof are disposed adjacent to the inner edge of the strip of adhesive 69, Fig. 7.

In the construction of my novel lampshade 20, the base 44 may be placed on top of a sheet of suitable flexible material from which the cover member 46 is to be made, such as, for example, decorative fabric, paper, plastic, or other like materials, suitable for covering and decorating lampshades. The cover member 46 may then be trimmed off along the edge 61 of the base 44. Along the other three sides 62, .63 and 64, the cover member 46 may then be cut to a size slightly larger than the base 4 44 to afford

marginal edges

72, 73, and 74, which project outwardly beyond the corresponding

edges

62, 63 and 64, respectively, of the base 44. The corners of the cover member 46 between the end edge 72 and the side edges 73 and 74 may then be cut off at a forty-five degree angle adjacent to the corners of the base 44, Fig. 7.

The protective paper, not shown, may then be stripped from the adhesive material 6669, and the end of the cover member 46 opposite to the end 72 thereof may be pressed smoothly onto the adhesive strip 66, with that end edge of the cover member 46 disposed flush with the edge 61 of the base 44. The base 44, may then be laid, outerface-down, on a suitable flat surface, such as a table, with the cover member 46 disposed smoothly beneath the base 44. The marginal edges 72, 73 and 74 may then be successively pulled over the adjacent

corresponding edges

62, 63 and 64 of the base 44, and pressed firmly into engagement with the corresponding strip of

adhesive material

69, 67 and 68, respectively. With the corners of the cover material 46 previously cut off at a forty-five degree angle, as previously mentioned, mitred corners are formed by the adjacent

marginal edges

72, 73 and 74 of the cover member 46 so that the portions of the cover member 46 disposed in juxtaposition to the inner face 49 of the base 44 are secured throughout their length to the underlying adhesive material 67-569., as shown in Fig. 8. The

72, 73 and 74 are preferably of such width that, when they are disposed in overlying relation to the

adhesive strips

69, 67 and 68, respectively, the inner edges of the

edge portions

71, 73 and 74 are flush with the inner edges of the. respective adhesive strips.

After the cover member 46 is thus smoothly mounted on the base 44, the prongs 55 on the clips 70 may then be bent upwardly at their junction with the respective bases 52 into perpendicular relation to the base 44. The base 44 with the cover member 46 thus attached thereto may then be rolled into cylindrical form wherein the edge portion 62 thereof is disposed in outwardly overlapping relation to the end edge portion 61, with the end edge 61 disposed in abutting relation to the perpendicularly projection prongs 55 of the clips '70. The prongs 55 of the clips 70 may then be bent into flat overlying relation to the inner face of the end portion 61 and pressed into firm engagement therewith to thereby firmly clamp the end portion 61 against the overlying end portion 62, and mechanically clip the

end portions

61 and 62 together, in such position that the end portion 61 conceals the marginal edge portion 72 of the cover member 46.

The ring 24 may then be mounted on the upper edge of the body member 22, with the latter edge disposed in the channel formed between the

flanges

36 and 38. In this position of the ring 24, the inner flange 38 thereof is disposed in overlying relation to the marginal edge portion 73 of the cover member 46, and the intermediate portion 40 of the ring 24 rests on the upper edge of the body member22, Fig. 2. The prongs 55 on the clips 48, along the upper edge of the body member 22 may then be bent upwardly and inserted through respective loops 42 on the flange 38 and then bent downwardly over the corresponding loop 42, Fig. 2, to thereby firmly, but releasably secure the ring 24 on the upper edge portion of the body member 22.

The ring 26 may be similarly mounted on the lower edge portion of the body member 22, the prongs 55 on the clips 48 along the lower edge portion of the body member 22, in this instance, being inserted downwardly through the prongs 42 on the ring 26 and then bent upwardly along the inner face of the rings 42 to thereby secure the ring 26 against outward movement relative to the body member 22, Figs. 2 and 3.

This, it will be seen, affords a complete, practical lampshade, which is attractive in appearance, and wherein the outer surface of the body member thereof may be composed of any suitable material chosen.

Such a shade may be sold or shipped, in knocked-down condition, in a substantially flat package which is no thicker than is necessary to contain the

24 and 26, the base 44 and a sheet of material for the cover member 46, stacked in flat parallel relation to each other.

If the person to whom the shade 20 is furnished desires to use a cover member having a difiYerent decorative appearance from that furnished with the shade, such change may be readily made by cutting to proper size a sheet of any desired material suitable for use as the cover member 46 and substituting the latter for the sheet of cover material furnished with the shade.

Also, with my novel invention, if, after the shade 20 is assembled it is desired to disassemble the shade for the purpose of cleaning the cover member 46 or replacing the latter, or the like, this may be easily accomplished. To accomplish this, the prongs 55 on all the clips 48 may be bent outwardly and then pulled out of engagement with the respective loops 42 to thereby release the

24 and 26. The

rings

24 and 26 may then be removed from the body member 22. The prongs 55 on the clips 70 may then be bent back into normal flat position and the body member 22 opened out into the flat position shown in Fig. 8. The cover member 46 may then be stripped from the strips of adhesive 6669. The principal portion of the adhesive 66-69 will normally remain on the inner face 49 of the base 44 and, is available to subsequently attach the thus removed cover member 46, after the latter has been cleaned, or to attach a replacement cover member 46 if such is desired. In replacing the cover member 46, the same steps may be followed as previously described in assembling the shade 20.

It will be understood that although I have disclosed a cylindrical-shaped shade 20, other shapes of shades such as, for example, frusto-conical-shaped shades may be likewise formed without departing from the purview of my invention, the blank from which the base 44 is then formed being merely cut to a proper shape wherein, when the ends 61 and 62 are secured together, the body member 22 is disposed in the desired frusto-conical shape, and the

24 and 26 being of proper size and shape to receive the upper and lower edge portions of a body portion 22 of such shape.

Also, it will be appreciated that although I prefer to use pressure sensitive adhesive in the strips 6669, other suitable adhesive such as, for example, heat sensitive adhesive of the thermo-plastic type may be used, the marginal edge portions 7I74 being secured to or released from the adhesive by suitably applying heat thereto such as, for example, by passing the usual household electric iron thereover during the assembly of the cover member 46 on the base 44 or during the disassembly thereof.

Also, it will be seen that the

rings

24 and 26 afford a decorative appearance on the shade 20, and, also, that the inner flanges 38 thereof alford cover members for concealing the

marginal edge portions

73 and 74 of the cover member 46.

In Fig. 9 of the drawings, a modified form of my invention is shown wherein parts which are identical to parts shown in Figs. 1-8 are indicated by the same reference numerals, and parts which are similar to parts shown in Figs. l-8 are indicated by the same reference numerals, but with the suflix a added thereto.

The construction of the modified form of my novel lampshade shown in Fig. 9 is identical to the construction of the lampshade shown in Figs. 1 to 8, inclusive except that the strips of adhesive 67a and 68a are disposed on the outer face 50 of the base 44 and no marginal edge portion, such as the

edge portions

73 and 74 embodied in the preferred form of my invention, are provided on the cover member 46a, the cover member 464 being adhesively secured directly to the outer face 50 of the base 44 along the edges 63 and 64 as well as along the edge 61. I

In this form of my invention, the base 44a may be disposed face downwardly on a suitably smoothed material from which the cover member 46a is to be formed, and the cover member 46a pressed into adhering engagement with the adhesive 66a, 67a and 68a on the face 50a of the base member 44a. Thereafter, the sheet of material from which the cover member 46 is to be formed may be trimmed along the

edges

61, 63 and 64 of the base 44a, and cut outwardly of the end 62 to afford a marginal edge portion 72, corresponding to the marginal edge portion 72 on the shade 20. The marginal edge portion 72, not shown, of the cover member 46a may then be pressed into adhering engagement with the adhesive 69 on the inner face 49 of the base 44a.

The body member 22a may then be formed into cylindrical shape, and the prongs 55 of the clips 70 may be bent into securing engagement with the end portion 61.

The

24 and 26 may then be mounted on the body member 22a in the same manner as the

rings

24 and 26 are mounted on the body member in the preferred form of my invention shown in Figs. 1 to 8, inclusive. When so mounted on the body member 22a, the

rings

24 and 26 conceal the bare edges 63 and 64, respectively, of the base 4411.

In Figs. 10 to 13, inclusive, another modified form of my invention is shown wherein parts which are identical to parts of the form of my invention shown in Figs. 1 to 8 are indicated by the same reference numerals, and parts which are substituted are indicated by the same reference numerals with the suflix b added thereto.

The construction of the lampshade 20b shown in Figs. 10 to 13 is identical to the construction of the shade 20 shown in Figs. 1 to 8, inclusive except for the construction of the upper and lower rings 24b and 26b and the clips 48b mounted on the base 44.

In the form of my invention shown in Figs. 10 to 13, the rings 24b and 26b are not channel shaped as are the

rings

24 and 26 but are merely flat in cross section. In mounting these rings 24b and 26b 0n the body member 22b, they are mounted entirely inside of the body member 22 in juxtaposition to the

marginal edge portions

73 and 74 of the cover member 46. The clips 48b are positioned similarly to the positioning of the clips 48 but, instead of embodying one long prong such as the prong 55, embody two

long prongs

81 and 82, and a short prong 84 disposed therebetween, Fig. 12.

Prior to the mounting of the rings 24b and 26b on the body member 22b, the

prongs

81 and 82 are bent outwardly at their junction with the base 52b of the clips 48b into flat overlying relation thereto. The rings 24b and 26b are then inserted into position within the upper and lower edge portions of the body member 22, respectively, in inwardly disposed juxtaposition to the

prongs

81 and 82 on the clips 48b. The outer end portion of the

prongs

81 and 82 are then reversely bent over the outer edges of the rings 24b and 26b, and the prongs 84 are reversely bent over the inner edges of the rings 24b and 26b. In this manner, it will be seen that the rings 24b and 26b are securely held on the body member 22b in position to conceal the

marginal edge portions

73 and 74 of the cover member 46.

In Figs. 14 and 15, another modified form of my invention is shown, and parts thereof which are the same as parts of the shade 20 shown in Figs. 1 to 8, are indicated by the same reference numerals.

In this modified form of my invention, the construction thereof is identical to that shown in Figs. 1 to 8, inclusive, except that the clips 48 have been eliminated and, preferably, three or more equally-spaced, tension coil springs 86 have been substituted therefor. The tension springs 88 each have an upper hook 91 and a lower hook 92 thereon, and after the

24 and 26 have been mounted on the body member 22, the springs 88 may be mounted therebetween, with the hook 91 engaged ina respective loop. 4 2 ,on the upper ring 24,of thehook 92 engaged in an oppositely disposed, loop 42 on the lower ring' 2 From the foregoing it will be seen that I have afforded a novel lampshade which may be shipped in knockeddown condition in a relatively flat package consisting of two rings, and a flat body member 22, or if desired, in place of an assembled body member 22 a flat base 44 and a supply ,of material for making the flat covering member 46. In either event, the finished lampshade may be quickly and easily assembled by people having little or no experience in the construction of lampshades, such as, for example, the averagehousewife or the like.

Also, itwill be seen that Ihavefaiforded a novel collapsible lampshade which, when, assembled, affords a neat and attractiveappearance.

Furthermore, it will be seen that I have afforded a novellampshade whereinjthe appearance of the body member thereof may be quickly and easily changed and wherein, if the cover member thereof becomes soiled, the latter may be quickly and easily removed for cleaning, or may be replaced with anothercover member, in a novel and expeditious manner.

Also, it willbe seen that I have afforded a novel lampshade which is relatively simple in construction, is practical and efiicient in operation, and may be readily and economically produced commercially.

Thus, while I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that these are capable of variation and modification, and I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details set forth, but desire to avail myself of such changes and alterations as fall within the purview of the following claims.

I claim:

1. A lampshade comprising upper and lower ring members disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, a body member, said body member comprising a sheet of semi-rigid material, a sheet of flexible material disposed in covering relation to said first mentioned sheet, a plurality of strips of adhesive on said first. mentioned sheet adjacent to, and parallel to, respective edges thereof and adhesively attached to edge portions of said sheet of flexible material, each of said ring members being mounted on said body member in juxtaposition to a respective one of said last mentioned edge portions, and means mounted on said body member and engaged with said ring members on the opposite side thereof from said body member for releasably holding said ring members in said juxtaposition to said respective last mentioned edge portions.

2. A lampshade comprising an elongated body member disposed in curved form wherein the opposite end portions thereof are disposed in juxtaposition to each other, means on one of said end portions and releasably engaging the other of said end portions for releasably holding said end portions in said juxtaposition to each other, said body member having substantially circular-shaped upper and lower edge portions, two ring members, each of said ring members having a recess therein substantially complementary to a respective one of said upper and lower edge portions, each of said ring members being mounted on said respective edge portion with the latter disposed in said recess in said ring member, and means mounted on said body member and extending through said rings for holding said rings on said respective edge portions.

3. A lampshade comprising a flexible body member movable betwcena fiat position and a normal position, said body member, when disposed in said normal position, being disposed in substantially the form of an endless curve, said body member comprising a base of semi-rigid sheet material, and a cover member of flexible sheet material, said cover member being mounted on said base in overlying relation thereto and with edge portions of said cover member being disposed in overlapping rela' tion to edge portions of said base, and means for releasably holding said body member in said normal position, said means, comprising two molding members mounted on oppositeedge portions of said body member in overlying relation to said edge portions of said cover member, and clip means mounted on said body member and releasably engaged with said molding members in position to releasably hold said molding members on said edge portions of said body member.

4. A lampshade comprising upper and lower ring members disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, a body member, said body member comprising a sheet of semi-rigid material having an outer face and an inner face, asheetof flexible material disposed incovering relation to said outer face of said first mentioned sheet and having marginal edge portions adhe sively secured to said inner face of said first mentioned sheet, each of said ring members being disposed in juxtaposition to a respective one of said marginal edge portions, and means mounted on said body member and engaged with said ring members on the opposite side thereof from said body member for releasably holding said ring members in said juxtaposition to said marginal edge portions.

5. A lampshade comprising upper and lower ring members disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, a body member, said body member comprising a sheet of semi-rigid material having an outer face and an inner face, a sheet of flexible material extending across said outer face of said first mentioned sheet and adhesively secured to marginal edge portions of said first mentioned sheet, each of said ring members being mounted on a respective one of said edge portions, and means mounted on said inner face and engaged with said ring members on the opposite side thereof from said body member for releasably holding said ring members on said last mentioned edge portions.

6. A lampshade comprising upper and lower ring members disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, each of said ring members having an annular recess therein opening toward the other of said ring members, a body member comprising a base having an inner face and an outer face, and a cover member extending across said outer face of said base and adhesively secured to marginal edge portions of said base, said body member being mounted in said recesses in said ring members, each of said ring members being disposed in overlying relation to a respective one of said marginal edge portions, and means inside said body member and engaged with said ring members for holding said ring members in said overlying relation to said respective marginal edge portions.

7. A lampshade comprising upper and lower ring members disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, each of said ring members having an inner flange and an outer flange disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, a body member com prising a base having an inner face and an outer face, and a cover member extending across said outer face of said base and having marginal edge portions adhesively secured to marginal edge portions of said base, each of said ring members being mounted on said body member with said inner and outer flanges thereof disposed on opposite sides of certain of said marginal edge portions of said base and of said cover member, and means mounted onsaid body member and engaged with said inner flanges for holding said rings on said body member.

8. A lampshade comprising upper and lower ring members disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, each of saidring members having an inner flange and an outer flange disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, an elongated body member comprising a base having an inner face and an outer face, and a cover member extending across said outer face of said base and having marginal edge portions adhesively secured to marginal edge portions of said base, means on said base releasably securing the opposite end portions of said body member in overlapping relation to each other, each of said ring members being mounted on a longitudinal edge portion of said body member with said inner and outer flanges of said ring member being disposed on opposite sides thereof, and means inside said body member and releasably engaged with said inner flanges for holding said rings on said body member.

9. A lampshade comprising upper and lower ring members disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, each of said ring members having an inner flange and an outer flange disposed in substantially parallel spaced relation to each other, an elongated body member comprising a base having an inner face and an outer face, and a cover member extending across said outer face of said base and having marginal edge portions adhesively secured to marginal edge portions of said base, means on said base releasably securing the opposite end portions of said body member in overlapping relation to each other, each of said ring members being mounted on a longitudinal edge portion of said body member with said inner and outer flanges of said ring member being disposed on opposite sides thereof, and clip means mounted on said base and clampingly engaged with said inner flanges for releasably holding said rings on said body member.

10. A lampshade comprising an endless body member having upper and lower edge portions, two ring members, each of said ring members being mounted on a respective one of said edge portions, and clip members mounted on and projecting inwardly from said body member, said clip members having reversely bent prongs clampingly engaging said ring members for releasably holding the latter on said body member.

11. A lampshade comprising an endless body member having upper and lower edge portions, two ring members, each of said ring members being mounted on a respective one of said edge portions, and tension coil-spring means extending between and releasably engaged with said ring members inwardly of said body member for releasably holding said ring members on said body member.

12. A lampshade comprising upper and lower ring members disposed in substantially parallel relation to each other, each of said ring members being substantially channel-shaped in cross-section and having an inner flange and an outer flange, a body member comprising an elongated base of semi-rigid sheet material flexible between a flat position and a curved position and having two end edges, two side edges, an inner face and an outer face, adhesive material on said inner face along one of said end edges and two side edges, adhesive material on said outer face along the other of said end edges, a cover member of flexible sheet material mounted on said outer face in covering relation thereto, said cover member having two end edge portions and two side edge portions, each of said side edge portions, and one of said end edge portions being disposed in overlapping relation to said inner face in adhering engagement with said adhesive disposed on said inner face along a respective one of said edges on said base, the other of said end edge portions being in adhering engagement with said adhesive on said outer face of said base, the end portions of said base being disposed in overlapping relation to each other, means on said one end portion of said base releasably securing said end portions of said base together, said ring members being mounted on said body member with said outer flange of each ring member disposed in juxtaposition to a respective portion of said cover member disposed on said outer face, and with said inner flange of each of said ring members disposed in juxtaposition to a respective one of said side edge portions of said cover member, and a plurality of clips mounted on said inner face in spaced relation to each other along said side edges of said base, said clips having prongs extending through portions of said inner flanges in position to hold said rings on said body member.

13. A lampshade comprising upper and lower ring members disposed in substantially parallel relation to each other, each of said ring members being substantially channel-shaped in cross-section and having an inner flange and an outer flange, a body member comprising an elongated base of semi-rigid sheet material flexible between a flat position and a curved position and having two end edges, two side edges, an inner face and an outer face, adhesive material on said base along said end edges and side edges, a cover member of flexible sheet material mounted on said base in juxtaposition to said outer face, said cover member being disposed in adhering engagement with said adhesive material, said ring members being mounted on said body member with said outer flanges thereof disposed in overlying relation to the portions of said cover member disposed along respective ones of said side edges of said base, and with said inner flanges disposed in juxtaposition to portions of said inner face, and means mounted on said base entirely under said cover member and engaged with said inner flanges for holding said rings on said body member.

14. A lampshade comprising upper and lower ring members disposed in substantially parallel relation to each other, a body member comprising an elongated base of semi-rigid sheet material flexible between a flat position and a curved position and having two end edges, two side edges, an inner face and an outer face, adhesive material on said inner said end edges, adhesive material on said outer face along the other of said end edges, a cover member of flexible sheet material mounted on said outer face in covering relation thereto, said cover member having two end edge portions and two side edge portions, each of said last mentioned side edge portions and one of said end edge portions being disposed in overlapping relation to said inner face in adhering engagement with said adhesive disposed on said inner face along a respective one of said edges on said base, the other of said end edge portions of said cover member being disposed in adhering engagement with said adhesive material on said outer face, the end portions of said base being disposed in overlapping relation to each other, means on said one end portion of said base releasably securing said end portions of said base together, said ring members being mounted in said body member in juxtaposition to respective ones of said side edge portions of said cover member, and a plurality of clips mounted on said inner face in spaced relation to each other along each of said side edges of said base, each of said clips having upwardly and downwardly projecting prongs reversely bent over upper and lower edge portions of one of said ring members to thereby releasably hold said ring members in said body member.
