Abstract
1313513 Transistor deflection current generator DECCA Ltd 1 May 1970 [9 June 1969] 29109/69 Heading H3T Deflection current for a cathode-ray tube deflection coil 10 is provided by a circuit comprising a feedback resistor 14 in series with the coil, a transistor 15 and a diode 16 connecting the coil to a first voltage source 17 and a switch 30 responsive to the voltage across the coil to connect the junction of the transistor and diode to a higher voltage source. So long as a steady current is required by the coil it is supplied by the low voltage source but when an increase is required in response to the input at 13 the resulting increase in voltage across the coil is fed through a capacitor 37 to the base of transistor 30 to connect the coil to the higher voltage source. Diode 25 prevents excessive voltage across the coil and diode 33 protects transistor 30 and provides a threshold such that small changes in coil current do not switch on transistor 30. Base bias may provide a further increase in threshold. Transistor 30 may be replaced by a complementary Darlington pair with a protecting diode connected to the first of the pair (Fig. 2, not shown). A second circuit 11, 19 &c. provides for push-pull deflection.
