Abstract

1313406 Coating apparatus BETHLEHEM STEEL CORP 19 May 1970 [29 May 1969] 24163/70 Heading B2L [Also in Division D1] Coating apparatus comprises a particle applicator 13 in the form of a fluidised bed, a fluidised conveyor 11 which carries powdered particles from a source 10 to the applicator and a load cell 34 which is associated with the fluidised bed and controls a solenoid valve 42 supplying air to the fluidised conveyor to maintain a predetermined level of particles in the fluidised bed. The fluidised bed may be as shown in Fig. 3 having two contra-rotating brushes 30, 30' which distribute the particles of the article S to be coated. Load cell 34 is directly below the fluidised bed and continuously monitors the weight of the bed and hence determines the level of particles in -the bed by controlling the conveyor accordingly. If a continuous sheet is to. be coated on both sides then the sheet is fed in a manner which produces a horizontal 'U' shape and a separate fluidised bed is provided below each leg of the 'U' shape hence providing coating on both sides of the sheet.
