Abstract
1359725 Coating apparatus JIDENCO MACHINES Ltd 15 Sept 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 43462/71 Heading B2L In a fluidised bed coating apparatus the fluidised powder into which articles to be coated are dipped is maintained at a relatively low level for coating and at a higher level during replenishment of powder in the bed. In the coating chamber 15 gas is fed in through pipes 19, 20 one of which has a larger flow restricting orifice 22, 23 than the other. These pipes are selectively operable by means of a valve 21. The pipe with the larger orifice maintains the level at 29 and the other one maintains the level at 30. A similar system obtains for the reservoir 16. When the bed 15 is to be replenished both levels are raised (as at 29 and 32) and powder passes over the weir 17 into the bed 15, and when coating takes place the levels are lowered (as at 30 and 31). The apparatus may be vibrated. Two reservoir tanks may be provided. In a modification (not shown) a single bed is provided which is loaded from an inlet pipe and excess powder falls over a weir to an outlet chute. The fluidising gas may be cooled.
