Abstract
1313295 Boring bar C S HARRIS 13 May 1970 [13 May 1969] 24387/69 Heading B3C A boring bar comprises a body having three stabilizing members to engage a surface being bored and means for holding a boring tool having a cutting edge disposed axially in advance of the stablizing members, one of which members can float and is urged against the surface while the other two members are fixed. As shown in Fig. 1 the body 1 has a cross slot 3 in which two tool carriers 4, having replaceable tool tips 6, are mounted. Roller 9 is urged against the surface being bored as a result of being supported between two pistons which slide in cylinder bores which receive an hydraulic supply from a rotary seal arrangement 14. The rollers 7, (8) (not shown) are radially fixed in use and may be adjustable for the appropriate cutting diameter. Alternatively the rollers 7, 8 may be replaced by tungsten carbide pads which are adjusted radially by packing pieces fitted behind the pads. Swarf produced by the tools is removed by oil which is supplied to the seal 14 and flushed through bores 16.
