1312814 Feet for furniture B A S SVENSSON 13 July 1970 [18 July 1969] 33890/70 Heading A4U [Also in Division F4] A knockdown support pedestal or foot for furniture comprises radial arms 14 held to the external surface of a post 12 by a locking ring 18 which is located in a recess 16 in each arm and abuts a radially outward facing abutment surface in a slot 16a, a downward load on the post causing the arms to pivot and press with the upper parts of their inner ends against the post. The pedestal is assembled by locating the ring in the slots 16a and passing the post downwards in the central space until shoulders 20, 22 abut, stop means 24 being mounted in a groove in the post to prevent downward movement of the arms so that a torque M in the arms, when a force P is applied to the post, is centred on the shoulders 20, 22. In modifications, the radial position of the arms, which may be more or less than four in number, is determined by providing slots in the ring corresponding to the slots 16a, or the lower end of the post has a conical surface which is engaged by conical faces 41 on the arms or by conical faces 42 of a domed locking ring 38 having spaces 44 into which U-section metal arms are hooked.
