A pedestal comprises a socket member 10 having a central recess of frusto - conical shape and grooves 11 to receive legs 17 which are held therein by a wedging member 12 drawn into the socket by a screw member 13 secured to the foot of a column supporting a reading lamp or other articles. The legs are thus independently adjustable.
