Abstract

1312247 Textile anti-crease treatments UNILEVER Ltd 1 July 1970 [2 April 1969 2 Jan 1970] 17277/69 and 165/70 Heading D1P In a method of improving the crease-resistance of fabrics containing cellulosic materials, e.g. cotton or regenerated cellulose, the fabrics are treated with an aqueous solution containing a resin precondensate and a latent acid catalyst, these being kept in solution in separate compartments in a container prior to their being applied to the fabrics, the container being such that the solutions can be dispensed simultaneously. This container can be a sachet in which there are two or more compartments or a pressurised or manually pumped aerosol with two or more compartments and which can spray solution from the separate compartments simultaneously. The resin precondensate can be melamine-formaldehyde, ureaformaldehyde and substituted urea-formaldehyde resin precondensates such as dimethylol urea, di-(methoxy methylol) urea, dimethylol ethylene urea, di-(methoxy methylol) ethylene urea, dimethylol propylene ureas and di- (methoxy methylol) propylene urea. The latent acid catalyst may be an inorganic salt such as aluminium chloride, magnesium sulphate or perchlorate, zinc nitrate, ammonium chloride, sulphate or nitrate or a weak organic acid such as citric acid or tartaric acid. Ammonium tarttrate may also be used. Ingredients which may be included in the latent acid catalyst or resin precondensate solutions, or in a separate compartment, depending on whether or not they are stable in the presence of other ingredients, are stabilisers such as magnesium oxide, surfactants, fabric softeners, such as quarternary ammonium compounds, ironing acids, for example silicone compounds, and perfume.
