Abstract

1312029 Tank manhole METALLWERK AG BUCHS 16 Dec 1971 [12 Jan 1971] 58469/71 Heading F2P A tank manhole socket and cylinder fitment made of plastics material consists of a body 3 formed in one piece and comprising a manhole socket 5, a saddle flange 6 adapted for fixing to a tank by means of a layer of plastics material 4 and a sleeve 7 coaxial with and surrounding the socket 5, the sleeve 7 being adapted to receive with a sliding fit a cylinder 10 which is formed separately from the body and is sealed in liquid tight manner to the sleeve when assembled with the body. The body 3 preferably has circumferentially spaced raised abutments on the flange 6 to support the cylinder 10 and an annular locating shoulder 16 and the sleeve 7 may have a bevelled end 8 for sealing medium 9. A flange 12 for seating a cover thereon may be formed separately and fixed to the socket 5 or formed integrally therewith. The flange 6 can be provided with a support surface for fixing a label or identification plate. The body 3 is assembled on the tank during manufacture, the layer 4 preferably being a mat or gasket of glass fibre reinforcement soaked with a hardenable resin, and the cylinder 10 is fitted on site the sealing compound 9 being a polyurethane cement.
