Abstract

1311820 Break spinners: stop motions LUWA AG 19 Nov 1971 [29 Jan 1971] 53932/71 Heading DID In a break spinner on yarn breakage as detected by a sensor 44 the air flow through openings 38 in the rotor 4 is reversed to purge the rotor of unspun fibres. This may be affected by air scoop blades 40, see also Fig. 3 (not shown), which can be orientated to encourage outflow of air during normal spinning or scooping in of air on thread breakage by pivoting about a horizontal pivot 70 when tipped by a switching ring 82. The angular position of the blades 40 about their vertical axes 62 may be preset to give the required air flowrate. In another embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown) plugs (94) in the base of the rotor (90) with diagonal bores (96) are rotatable by an undisclosed mechanism to cause inflow or outflow of air. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), alternative inflow and outflow holes are provided, the relevant holes being covered and uncovered by a rotary shutter (106) which shutter is controlled by a centrifugal device 108 responsive to the speed of the rotor. The reverse air flow may alternatively be generated by running the rotor in reverse. When a thread break is detected in addition to the air flow to the rotor being reversed fibre feed is terminated and a valve 18 opens the rotor to a suction duct 16 and drive to the rotor is discontinued. The blades 40 also act as air brakes to slow the rotor. Fibres may be removed alternatively through the yarn delivery member 8 or the fibre duct 20.
