1311815 1,2-Dichloroethane ISRAEL MINING INDUSTRIES INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT 4 June 1971 [19 June 1970] 19092/71 Heading C2C 1,2-Dichloroethane is produced by reaction of ethylene with cupric chloride at 80-200‹ C. and at least 100 psi in a liquid medium comprising a water-hydrocarbon or chlorinated hydrocarbon mixture having 0À5 to 100 volumes organic liquid per volume of water. The process may be an oxychlorination process in which oxygen and hydrochloric acid are additionally fed to the reaction medium. One or more additional metal salts may be added, those specified being ammonium, sodium, lithium, calcium and magnesium chlorides.
