Abstract

1311768 Cotton reels G N HUGHES 23 Nov 1971 [28 Aug 1970] 26431/70 Heading B8M A cotton reel of thermoplastics material, e.g. polystyrene, comprises an outer tubular portion 1, an inner tubular portion 2 retained coaxially within the portion 1 by a plurality of longitudinal radial webs 5, an annulus of thermoplastics material 6 joining the tubular portions 1 and 2 at one end and formed integrally therewith, and an initially separate end cap 3 which is interfitted between the tubular portions at the other end thereof to close the space therebetween. The reel is preferably provided with four webs 5 disposed mutually at right angles. The end cap 3 may be in the form of a disc which fits within the portion 1 and abuts the end'of the portion 2. Alternatively, the end cap may be provided with a tubular portion 8 abutting the tubular portion 2. The end cap 3 may be welded or adhesively secured in position. The ends of the tubular portions 1 and 2 receiving the end cap 3 may be undercut to accommodate the cap. The tubular portion 1 is provided with flanges 4 retaining thread wound on the reel, which flanges may be nicked to receive a thread end.
