Abstract

1358295 Reels; attaching strip ends EASTMAN KODAK CO 5 July 1971 [3 July 1970] 31387/71 Heading B8M A winding core for strip material, e.g. magnetic tape, comprises a generally cylindrical body 1, about which the strip is wound, the body 1 having a recess 4, 4<SP>1</SP> in the periphery for receiving an end 7 of the strip, a strip securing clip 2 being formed integrally with the core at a point adjacent the recess 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and joined to the periphery of the core by a frangible connection 3, which connection breaks when pressure is applied to the clip to cause the clip to enter the recess 4, 4<SP>1</SP> to secure the strip end 7, the clip within the recess co-operating with the remainder of the body periphery to form a generally cylindrical winding surface for the strip. The frangible connection is preferably formed by a constriction between the body 1 and the clip 2, the axis of the constriction being parallel to the axis of the body. The core is preferably formed from a single piece of plastics material and may be provided with at least one flange to form a spool. The clip 2 is preferably received in the recess by means of mating elements 5, 4, 4<SP>1</SP>. A spindle receiving bore 6 is provided in the body 1. The body may be formed from thermoplastic or thermosetting material, a particularly suitable material being formaldehyde resin. The frangible connection may be made between a flange and the clip.
