Abstract

932,863. Thread reels. V. & E. PLASTICS Ltd. May 24, 1962 [June 6, 1961], No. 20310/61. Class 120 (3). A moulded reel comprises a generally cylindrical outer shell 10 externally flanged or shouldered at its ends which are closed by axially apertured end discs 13, 17, one of which is integral with the shell and the other of which is formed separately from and secured to the shell 10, and a central axial tube 15 of the reel being formed integrally with one of the end discs and in contact with the other disc. The tube 15 may be integral with the disc 13 which is integral with the shell 10, or integral with the other disc 17 (Fig. 3, not shown). The disc 17 may be secured within a recess 16 in the flange 11 or may fit over the flange (Fig. 4, not shown). The reel is preferably injection moulded with the cylindrical shell 10, while still warm, fitted on to the cold disc 17. The shell may be pressed or spun over the disc and adhesive may be used. The material may be polystyrene, cellulose acetate, polypropylene or polythene.
