Abstract

[Also in Group IX] A reel for film or tape comprises two flanges 1, 2, and a hub 3 constructed so that a confined space 8 which is open at least at one end of the hub is defined within the hub between its periphery and its axis, and at least one flange and such periphery are interrupted, as by slots 6, so that a length of film &c. may be brought side-edgewise into a position in which it extends between the flanges and into the space. An operative is enabled to insert his finger into the space 8 in a mounted reel in order to turn the reel in a controlled manner and simultaneously press a film &c. end against the peripheral wall of the space. The unitary reel shown is of injection-moulded plastic, e.g. cellulose acetate or polystyrene.
