Abstract
1311666 Woven fabrics PHIPPS & SON (HOLDINGS) Ltd 3 April 1970 [3 April 1969] 17446/69 Heading D1K In elastic webbing, e.g. for shoe gussetts, formed by weaving elastic warp threads 8, 9, with inelastic wefts and binder warps so that the elastic threads run through tunnels formed by the other threads, the shedding of the elastic threads is altered at intervals, for example by shedding the elastic threads two picks up and two picks down when the other threads are shed one pick up and one pick down, to cause the elastic threads at such points to emerge from the tunnels, whereby pulling through of the elastic threads when the webbing is cut or pierced by sewing needles is prevented. The elastic thread may be rubber or synthetic elastomeric material such as elastomeric polyurethane and the threads may be bare or covered with cotton. The non- elastic threads may be cotton, rayon or nylon. In Fig. 3 the elastic threads 8, 9 in the body of the webbing are arranged in pairs whilst single elastic threads 3, 4, are arranged at the edges; the threads 3, 4 may be replaced by crimped nylon.
