1311611 Photo-copying apparatus PITNEYBOWES Inc 18 Jan 1971 [22 Jan 1970] 2297/71 Heading G2A In a photo-copying machine, Fig. 1 (not shown), there is provided original sheet handling apparatus (10) comprising a cover 14 movable between a fully open position (as shown) and a closed position, Fig.1 (not shown), the cover having a slot or entry (12) giving access to a sheet feed path when the cover is closed; a hinged feed deck 75 urged upwardly by springs 81, the deck 75 carrying a first array of feed rollers 68, 69, 100, 101, 104 and guides 90a, 90b, 114, 116, 118 120 spaced along said feed path; and a stationary feed bed 76 having a second array of feed rollers 93, 102, 105 and guides 92, 109, 26a cooperating with said first array when said deck is closed, Fig.1 (not shown), by being held against the bed 76 by latches 85, whereby movement of the cover 14 and the deck 75 to the positions shown renders the feed path accessible for the freeing of a jammed sheet. In use, an original is inserted into the slot (12) and between the rollers 68, 69 from whence it is guided to an illuminating station 16 for imaging via a mirror (20) onto moving charged copy material, dogs 70 preventing the insertion of a further original while a copy cycle is in process. If only one copy is required, the original is directed through guides 108, 109 to rollers 104, 105 and thence to an exit 26. If multiple copies are required, and the original is relatively short, a gate 110 is positioned to direct an original from the station 16 via rollers 100, 101 between guides 118, 120, the gate being shifted when the last copy has been made, thereby allowing the original to reach the exit 26. For multiple copies of a relatively long original, a gate 112 is positioned to divert an original leaving the station 16 via roller 104 and guides 114, 116 to the rollers 100, 101.
