Abstract
1311608 Alkoxylated amides AGENCY OF INDUSTRIAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY 19 April 1971 [7 March 1970] 23147/71 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] The invention comprises compounds of formula H 2 NCOR[O(CHR<SP>1</SP>CH 2 O) y H] z , where R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of 7-21 C, R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl, y is 1-100 and z is an integer of not less than 1; and surface active compositions containing them. These compounds are made by reacting a suitable alkylene oxide with the hydroxy-amide, or with an ester of the hydroxy-acid followed by ammonolysis with liquid ammonia. Specified starting materials are castor oil, hydrogenated castor oil, methyl ricinoleate, 12-hydroxystearic acid ester, and tetrahydroxystearic acid ester. The compounds of the invention also have rust-inhibiting and antimicrobial properties.
