Abstract

1311562 Securing cams to shafts ASSOCIATED ENG Ltd 12 June 1970 [27 June 1969] 28477/70 Heading F2U [Also in Division F1] A device for moving a cam relative to its driving shaft in particular to vary the control of the valves of an I.C. engine comprises cams 15, 18, 19 freely rotatable about a shaft 5. As shown for the cam 15 operating a valve 17 the phase of the cam can be varied by a drive which consists of a collar 8 rotated by the shaft driving by a pin 8a in a radial groove 10 a disc 9 which by a hole 12 is rotatable about the shaft but movable relative thereto and which in turn by a pin 15a in a radial groove 11 spaced from the groove 10 drives the cam 15. Movement of an arm 13 in the plane of the drawing as indicated at y produces eccentricity in the disc 9 relative to the shaft 5 and thus increases the speed of cam operation in one half cycle and decreases it in the other. Similarly movement of the arm 13 can be in a plane perpendicular to the drawing. In a modification, Fig. 4, not shown the bearings mounting the collar 8 and disc 9 are varied.
