Abstract

1311396 Spreaders for lifting containers L STRAND 24 Nov 1971 54651/71 Heading B8H [Also in Division E2] A lifting yoke for standardized freight containers comprises a frame 1 having twist locks 4 at each corner for engagement with corresponding openings in the corners of fitments of a container, the frame 1 being connected to a lifting cable 2 by means of straps 3, an additional strap 11 extending from the cable 2 to an arm 12, on rotation of which on lifting the frame 1 a pawl 15 rotates a ratchet 14 and thus gears 16, 17, crank arms 21, 22, crank rods 23, 24, 23<SP>1</SP>, 24<SP>1</SP> and finally the individual twist locks 4 through 90 degrees to an operative position in engagement with the associated container fitment. When the container is deposited the straps 3, 11 are slackened, the yoke is again raised and, by means of the pawl 15 and associated equipment the lock 4 are rotated through a further 90 degrees to an inoperative position. A spring 26 is inserted in the strap 11 in order to prevent damage to the mechanism of a defect in the fitting of a container should prevent rotation of the locks 4.
