Abstract

1311058 Seals WARWICK PUMP & ENG CO Ltd 14 Dec 1971 58039/71 Heading F2B A sealing device for rotary or reciprocating pumps comprises a main seal 2, 3, 4, an auxiliary seal 5 spaced from, and on the high pressure side of, the main seal, and a filter 6 for filtering the pump fluid before it reaches the main seal. As shown for a rotary pump, the main seal 2, 3, 4 is an end-face seal, the auxiliary seal 5 is a resilient scraper ring and the filter is in a by-pass pipe 7. For a reciprocating pump, Fig. 1 (not shown), the main seal is a stuffing box having a resilient packing (3) compressed by a gland nut (4) and washer (5) and the auxiliary seal (6) is a scraper ring made of porous filtering material, the by-pass in this embodiment being omitted.
