Abstract

1310108 Conveyer belts conveying through liquid GLACIER METAL CO Ltd 4 May 1970 [5 May 1969] 22818/69 Heading B8A [Also in Division C1] Sand or gravel on a beach is cleaned by removing oil, tar or like unwanted matter in a continuous process by scooping it up at 10 on to a conveyer belt 11 which passes through a bath 12 of a degreasing agent or solvent and then discharging the cleaned sand or gravel back to the beach. The cleaned sand may be heated at 20 to remove the agent and the distilled agent 21 may then be condensed at 22 and returned to the bath 12. The preferred agent includes trichlorethylene. The cleansed sand may be returned directly to the beach or via a container 25 and a centrifuge for drying the sand if necessary. The oil or sludge is collected in a container 15.
